Mountain or molehill? It’s a matter of perspective.

This is a molehill:

THIS, is a mountain.

Just looking at them, we’d never get the two confused.
But when it comes to the mountains and molehills we come to in our lives, sometimes we can be completely discouraged and overwhelmed by the molehill, even when we’ve already conquered an entire chain of mountains. What happens? Our perspective changes.
Think about it … to a grasshopper a molehill is a mountain. But to God, Mt. Everest is little more than a molehill. Perspective makes all the difference.
The 12 spies Moses sent into the Promised Land in Numbers 13 had a perspective problem.
“Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey … But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we. And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, ‘The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:27, 31-33)
We’ve had a number of  “molehill” events this year, and every one of them has seemed mountainous to me at first glance. It’s only when I step back, pray, and look at my situation from a heavenly perspective, that I realize I’m looking at a molehill in the grand scheme of things (God’s plan).
It’s altogether easy to make mountains out of molehills, but it accomplishes nothing but fear, frustration, and fatigue. The next time you’re faced with what looks like a mountain, remember how significant your perspective is to your situation. No matter how big the mountain, in God’s eyes it’s a mere molehill!
